Kesternich tests simulate exposure to acid rain or industrial chemicals to assess the relative corrosion resistance of the coating, substrate, or the part itself. The parts or panels are placed inside a specially designed chamber and are exposed to SO2 and condensing moisture before being evaluated for their corrosion resistance.

Kesternich tests are cyclic corrosion tests involving moisture condensation and the introduction of sulfur dioxide in the form of gas (SO2).

A specific volume of SO2 gas, typically 0.2L, 1L, or 2L is introduced into the enclosure, the temperature of the chamber is increased to a predetermined level, and the relative humidity is maintained at condensing levels. After a set period of time, the chamber is ventilated and the temperature may drop to ambient conditions.

The Ascott Kesternich corrosion chambers require no human intervention when performing tests. Its fully automatic design is controlled by an advanced control system.

The Kesternich corrosion chambers are designed to meet various gas dosing test standards listed above and can also be used as a condensing humidity chambers.
