In addition to our conventional close wound or spirally wound K bars, we also employ a similar wire winding technique to produce K wedge bars as illustrated below. The result is a very economical method for the manufacture of fixed gap type applicators which can often be successfully used for the application of heavy coatings of high viscosity mixes and to coat uneven surfaces such as woven or non-woven materials. Typical examples are fabrics coated with P.V.C. to make samples of artificial leather, wall coverings etc and the application of organisols and plastisols to many substrates.
As standard, our wedge bars are arranged to produce a nominal coating width of 100mm (3.9") but this width can be easily changed to suit individual requirements. The fixed gap dimension is equal to the wire diameter used and the wet coating thickness will be approximately equal to this gap dimension although this can be affected by the substrate surface conditions and other factors.
Wedge bars can be supplied for use with K Hand Coaters and with K Control Coaters or even for hand use with a simple glass plate being used to support the substrate.
Gaps between 50µm and 1500µm are available in 50µm steps
