Description

Determine the minimum film formation temperature using a nickel-plated brass plate producing a gradual temperature gradient. Particularly recommended for emulsion paints, this device also allows the study of the drying constraints of aqueous coatings and non-pigmented latexes.

• Complies with ISO 2115, ASTM D 2354 and DIN 53787 standards.

• MFFT-90 model: from -10 to + 90 ° C.

• Optional cooling unit.

Design

The new minimum film-forming temperature instrument boasts an easy-to-use touch screen interface, digital MFFT temperature calculation and output on convenient result labels. These additions to the trusted Rhopoint MFFT make the instrument easier to use with greater certainty of results.

The temperature bar consists of a copper plate with an electronically imposed temperature gradient. Built-in temperature sensors monitor the temperature across the pan, a gradient graph is displayed on the touchscreen.

The purge gas is completely dried and flows over the tray via a sintered distribution block. The plexiglass hinged cover provides thermal and atmospheric insulation while allowing constant visual inspection of a test. A cursor is moved to indicate the identified MFFT point; the instrument calculates and displays the temperature in the required units.

The instrument can be supplied with an optional results label printer. The recorded values include the time and date of the test and the identified minimum film formation temperature. The printed label can be attached to selected sample vials or worksheets.

Paints and coatings

The minimum film forming temperature (MFFT) of a paint or coating is the lowest temperature at which it will fuse uniformly when deposited on a substrate as a thin film. The standard test to determine this temperature involves the use of an MFFT-BAR, as specified by standards such as ASTM D 2354 and ISO 2115. The design of the Rhopoint instrument is based directly on these standards.

Adhesives

The MFFT of one-component adhesives can be found in the same way as paints and coatings. With two-component adhesives, a strip of aluminum foil can be placed on the tray, for easy cleaning, before applying the adhesive. Two-component adhesives do not exhibit MFFT, but the minimum cure temperature can be found by scraping the sample with a spatula
