Corrosion is a natural phenomenon of metal degradation which has serious financial consequences on infrastructure and equipment.

The amount of expenditure generated, on a global scale, is estimated at several hundreds of billions of dollars.

The conduct of corrosion tests is a laboratory technique for evaluating the protection effectiveness of anti-corrosion coatings (paints), galvanization or even passivation layers.

During the session, we will cover the following topics:

• Laboratory accelerated corrosion testing methods
• The continuous salt spray test according to ISO 9227 and ASTM B117
• The first alternating wet / drying cycles: ASTM G85 prohesion test and first generation automotive tests
• The different corrosion behaviors and the effects of relative humidity
• The arrival of tests with controlled relative humidity and the development of cyclic corrosion tests
• Realistic correlations between cyclic corrosion tests and the natural environment in which materials and coatings are used
